Comparing Kibbe's Types with Dwyn's Types
|
When I bought Kibbe's book in 1988 I searched it exhaustively for my type. I really wanted to be a Flamboyant but couldn't fit myself into that description or any other. So I started studying people at random; on the bus, on the street, at church. and reading books on the subject, trying to see the whole spectrum of types so I could find mine. See bibliography.
Actually I would never have Kwibbled with him if only he'd had the combination of Gamin and Natural, my beauty type. Like all of you I love the way he describes the metamorphosis of each person in his book and their styles, makeup, hair, etc. But lacking his way with words and having more types to dress I opted for simplifying his recommendations and adding mine.
Adding a new sub category in the combination types, a "blended" type, right in the middle of short and tall, rounded and angular, etc. This means there's a Buoyant Gamin and a Buoyant Natural but in between is the type who is not more Gamin or more Natural, she's blended; the only word that fits.
So, more about blended types: they would choose the middle hues in their color season, low-contrast accessories, low-contrast prints. Hair and makeup would not be extreme or too blah. Sound like guidelines for the four classic types? Exactly. But you can and should choose one small item that adds contrast: a small more colorful scarf wound through a bracelet, or the bracelet itself is a contrast, or the frames of dark glasses, etc. Send your ideas and we'll post on the blog.
Yes, the four in the middle are all classics: the balanced Dramatic, the balanced Gamin, etc. It just seemed right to give each type its own name; it would also be right to say Romantic Classic, Natural Classic, Gamin Classic...
Now for the guys: the Romantic body type is all girl so we leave that out. The wiring of the Romantic type brain however, is the same as one of the four possibilities of the Dramatic/Gamin combination.
The Gamin brain is slow left/slow right (analytical) - while the Dramatic is fast left/fast right (imaginative). So we have S/S or F/F or F/S like the Natural or S/F like the Romantic. Therefore we have guys who are more caring and less practical. Or they avoid closeness because they are so emotionally sensitive.
So 3 basic types for guys and 4 for girls.
